My Lord,

With reference to my despatch No. 317 of the

16th November, 1918, I have the honour to recommend the pay- ment to certain overseers in the Public Works Department of

the further allowances which are shown in the enclosed

schedule. Six overseers are still absent on active service.

The schedule includes allowances suggested

for a tracer and a draughtsman. Their work has been except- ionally heavy owing to road improvements and other urgent

matters.

I would ask for Your Lordship's approval by telegraph, and I would at the same time request permission to grant similar allowances in respect of overtime due to war conditions over a period not later than the end of the

present year. 23
